HISTORY – The main steps in the development of the company
|1880 - Creation in Brasov of a mechanic workshop profiled on smelting and processing pig iron pieces.
1914 - Growing, it was reorganized in a limited liability company. The activity place was moved out of the medieval city of Brasov, where it remained until now.
1919 - The transformation in joint – stock company named "FRATII SCHIEL s.a.p.a." and the expansion of the activity in the locomotive and railway carriage reparation field, equipments and components for the mining industry and construction equipments, mechanical transmissions and parallel lathes.
1927 - It’s celebrated a new steel foundry equipped with an electric oven of 1,5 tones.
1930 - It’s celebrated a new forge and a steam boiler for repairing the carriages, locomotives and equipments of the mining and construction industry. It starts the fabrication of the hydraulic turbines, and the company becomes a pioneer in Romania by making the first bus and the first parallel lathe.
1948 - After the second world war, the state became the owner after the nationalisation, the name changing into "Uzina Strungul". The production diversified: equipments for extraction of crude oil, hydromantic brakes, turbo connecting gears, couple hydraulic converters, air compressors, distance hydraulic command systems, all these, representing now the main part of the company’s production.
1961 - The name of the company changes to HIDROMECANICA and it starts the production of hydraulic transmissions for locomotive as well as the one of the turbochargers for supercharging the diesel engines.
1961 - 1979 - Represents a period of time in which for HIDROMECANICA are acquired a number of licenses meant to allow it to become an important producer in the hydromechanics transmissions field and turbochargers, as follows:
1961 - TURBOCHARGERS SULZER, model LAG 46, for diesel engines mainly for the locomotives (railway traction). These engines start to produce at UCM Resita.
1963 - TURBOCHARGERS BBC (BROWN BOVERI ) SWITZERLAND, destined to diesel engines with various utilities: railway traction, naval propulsion, naval auxiliary engines, stationary electrogenic groups, naval, drilling groups, etc.
1963 - - HYDRAULIC TRANSMISSIONS VOITH AUSTRIA, for hydraulic diesel locomotives, which start being produced at FAUR (23 August) Bucharest.
1972 - TURBOCHARGERS ALCO - SUA for diesel engines of the same brand which mainly were fitting the electrical diesel locomotives produced at ELECTROPUTERE Craiova and FAUR Bucharest, but also naval and stationary applications.
1976 - HYDROMECHANICAL TRANSMISSIONS (POWER-SHIFT) CLARK - SUA meant to fit terrace equipments, auto tip - up, auto crane and petrol equipments.
1978 - A new unit placed in the north side of the city Brasov and named HIDROMECANICA 2 starts to produce, especially HYDROMECHANICAL TRANSMISSIONS .
1979 - TURBOCHARGERS HOLSET - ANGLIA, through this license expanding the field of activity towards smaller and faster diesel engines, for terrestrial traction field purposes.
1979 - Licenses connected to the HOLSET license which allow the high level production of turbine rotors (TRUCAST - England) and compressor rotors (STERLING - England).
1990 - By dint of the law 15/90 and DG 1254/04.02.1990, Hidromecanica becomes a joint – stock company, named S. C. HIDROMECANICA S.A.
2000 - The certification ISO 9001 approved by TÜV. The Ministry of National Defence (OMCAS) has granted the certification of the accordance of the quality system with its regulations and the international standard ISO 9001.
2001 - Privatization with the overtaking of the majority stock.
2002 - DB certification as supplier for Deutsche Bahn.
2003 - The overtaking of the majority stock by the Romanian state (AVAS).
2005 - 100% private capital company.
